Types of Campus Housing

Women’s Housing—Helaman Halls (with refrigerator)*
Women’s Housing—Heritage Halls (no refrigerator)**

*Helaman Halls housing includes a small refrigerator in each room. These buildings are near the Cannon Commons cafeteria.

**Women’s housing units in Heritage Halls will be filled to capacity (2 people per room) and may include women from multiple groups (i.e., a group of four and group of two will be combined in a 6-bed unit). Refrigerators are not available in Heritage Halls.

Individuals or groups (up to six women per group) may register. Individuals who register singly who do not request a roommate will have one assigned.

Men’s Housing—Helaman Halls (with refrigerator)*

Individuals or groups (up to six men per group) may register. Individuals who register singly who do not request a roommate will have one assigned.

Family Housing (Related Family Members) (no refrigerator)

Four to six family members may register as a group for family housing (a parent or legal guardian must accompany youth who are under 18 years of age). Please note that family housing is limited to six family members per unit, and youth must be age 14 or older by December 31 of the program year. No cooking facilities or refrigerators are available. Please see the Family Housing Registration Procedures under the “Registration Procedures” section below.

Unfortunately, couples’ housing is not available. The facilities at Helaman Halls cannot house both genders in the same building since they have only one restroom per wing or have shared bathrooms between rooms. Except for participants who qualify and register for family housing in Heritage Halls, men and women are housed in separate buildings and should register for either men’s or women’s housing. If campus facilities do not work for your situation, please make other lodging arrangements (perhaps with friends, family, or a local hotel or motel).

Housing Registration Procedures—Individuals and Groups (Including Roommates)

Housing may be purchased, subject to availability, when you register for a Monday-to-Friday or Tuesday-to-Friday program option. If you need assistance,  please call 801-422-8925 or toll-free 1-877-221-6716.

Dates to Remember

  • From April 2 at 9:00 a.m. to July 24 at 5:00 p.m. mountain time, individuals and groups (including roommates) may register for campus housing online on a space-available basis.
  • From July 25 to August 7 at 5:00 p.m. mountain time, only individual campus housing spots will be sold on a space available basis (no roommates or groups).

Roommates and Groups (Designating a Roommate)

To request a roommate or to be part of a group (up to six people per group), you must enter a ten-digit group link number during the housing registration process. This group link number should be a telephone number (including area code) of one of the group members, and each group member must provide the same link number during registration.

When you register as part of a group, you will see a list of names of those from the group who have already registered. At that time, you may select one of them as a roommate. Of course, the first person in a group or in a roommate pairing will not see their desired roommate listed since that person has not yet registered. It will always be the second person of a roommate pairing who creates a link between the two. When one person selects a roommate it is noted on both individuals' records.

We try to honor group housing requests for all housing areas. The maximum group size is six individuals.

Family Housing Registration Procedures

  • Each family group must include four to six family members who are registered for the Education Week program. Only family members may be part of the group.
  • The first person to register in a family group must notify the other family members of the group link number that he/she selected. The other group members must register within one week, using the same link number, so that at least four people are in the group.
  • Family groups that do not have the minimum number of individuals (four) within one week of the original registration will be removed from family housing. Individuals will either be transferred to men’s or women’s housing or be withdrawn if men’s or women’s housing is full.
Accommodation Details

standard room setup

Campus housing accommodations include two twin beds per room, bed and bath linen (twin bed sheets, pillow, pillow case, blanket, bath towel, washcloth, and bar of soap), and central bath facilities on each floor. Please note that refrigerators are not available in Heritage Halls (used for family housing and some women’s group housing). Refrigerators are standard in the rooms at Helaman Halls (used for men’s housing and the majority of women’s housing). Laundry facilities are available, bring your quarters.

Participants who do not request a roommate will have one assigned in men’s and women’s housing. If you register for campus housing and are in need of accommodation for a qualified disability, please inform the Education Week office in writing immediately after you register, but no later than July 17 (see the Special Needs page for details). Please be specific in your request. BYU is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for participants with qualified disabilities.

No cooking facilities, private rooms, or rooms with private baths are available. If your situation requires one of these amenities, please make other lodging arrangements (perhaps with friends, family, or a local hotel or motel).

Alternatives to Campus Housing

Many Education Week students stay with family or friends. You might consider purchasing a program registration for your host and/or hostess to show appreciation for their hospitality.

Check area hotels and motels from Explore Utah Valley.

If you are bringing an RV, we encourage you to stay in a local RV campground. While it is not encouraged, RVs are allowed in lot 37 north of the Indoor Practice Facility (see map in the class schedule booklet published in July). Recreational vehicle parking is restricted (both day and night) to this lot. RV parking on campus is available ONLY for completely self-contained RVs. RV parking is permitted beginning Saturday, August 16, on a first-come, first-served basis. This area is a parking lot for RVs and cars only; there are no restrooms, showers, hookups, or dumpsites. Restrooms and showers in the Richards Building, Smith Fieldhouse, and student housing areas may not be used by participants staying in RVs. Please do not bring pets onto campus property. In using the RV area, keep it free of litter; assure that your vehicle does not leak; keep awnings contained so traffic is not impeded; make sure not to attach anything to structures, fixtures, or surfaces; and keep RVs in stalls as much as possible. Courtesy shuttle vans run between this parking area and the main campus during Education Week.

If you live within daily driving distance, please consider returning home in the evenings, leaving open the limited housing space for students who come from areas outside the Wasatch Front.
